Environmental Considerations

Hydrodemolition has many benefits over traditional mechanical concrete demolition methods in terms of environmental considerations.

Jackhammers are a traditional method for removing concrete. However, they are loud, create silica dust, cause vibration, and can damage the surrounding concrete and rebar by creating microfractures.

Hydrodemolition uses high-pressure water jets to remove concrete. This is often a robotic process, so results are more precise. Our operators control exactly how much concrete is removed, whether its 3/4″ for concrete scarification or several feet of concrete for concrete hydrodemolition.

Our hydrodemolition equipment is relatively quieter than jackhammers; jackhammers are usually around 100-120 decibels, and hydrodemolition equipment is generally around 10 decibels quieter. The process does not create any vibration, resulting in an overall less intrusive process. Because hydrodemolition uses water and keeps the concrete wet, there is virtually no exposure to silica dust for operators, making it safer for operators, contractors, and owners.
