Berkley-Dighton Bridge

Project Overview

AK Industrial Services provided hydrodemolition services for anomaly removal on drilled shafts in the Taunton River, MA.

Key Challenges

  • Close proximity to heavy traffic
  • Rules regarding the spawning season of the Atlantic Sturgeon Fish caused work stoppage, delaying the project
  • Since anomaly removal was a schedule-critical activity, the postponement necessitated that the owner obtain a waiver for the General Contractor to work in the river during spawning season
  • Work over/on the Taunton River – the drilled shaft was in the river
  • Cofferdam

Services Performed

  • 1 shaft, 3 anomalous zones; Deepest was 90′, approximately 54” diameter
  • Max 10,000-psi at 25-gpm
  • Steel caisson was still in place

Successful Results

  • The AK Industrial Services team was able to use the existing test cores used to test the anomalous areas
  • A specialty gooseneck work platform was used to facilitate anomaly removal
  • AKIS mobilized and completed the work, to quickly and successfully solve the anomaly issues
